MAKASSAR (Antara): The black box of the Adam Air jetliner which crashed in Majene waters, West Sulawesi, on Jan. 1, 2007 arrived Friday morning in Makassar, before being flown to Jakarta and the U.S.
The black box reached the capital city of South Sulawesi province at 9:45 a.m. local time aboard a searching ship.
It will be later flown to Jakarta and the United States for examination.
Frans Wenas, a member of the National Commission forTransportation Safety (KNKT), said it would take three months to get the results of the examination.
"The contents of the box can still be examined and the results will be known soon. It depends on the condition of the black box," Wenas said.
He said the black box was found some 10 to 15 meters from the point where it was initially detected due to strong underwater currents. It was retrieved from a depth of 2,000 meters below sea-level.
Wenas said the black box was expected to uncover the mystery around the Adam Air plane crash in which 102 passengers and crew died.(***)
