JAKARTA (JP): President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Tuesday Central Java Governor Mardiyanto as the new Home Affairs Minister, replacing ailing minister Moh. Ma’ruf.
Ma'ruf is still undergoing medical treatment for a stroke.
Besides Mardiyanto, several names have been tipped as candidates to fill the post, including the outgoing Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso, secretary general of the Regional Representatives Council Siti Nurbaya, Democratic Party legislator E.E. Mangindaan, and deputy chairman of the National Defense Board M. Yasin.
The installment of the new minister will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Presidential Palace. (**)
