JAKARTA (Antara): Indonesia regrets Saudi Arabia’s step in moving Indonesian worker Tari from a hospital to Malad City’s Police Witness Protection Center in Riyadh without prior notification to Indonesian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, a spokesman said.
"Tari, one of the secured victims (who were allegedly abused by their employers), has been moved from the hospital to Malad City’s Police Witness Protection Center in Riyadh without notification to the Indonesian embassy," a foreign ministry spokesman Teguh Wardoyo said here over the weekend.
Teguh, the director for Indonesian Citizen Protection Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Tari was removed from the hospital because she had recovered.
"We have followed all required legal procedures in the country but the Saudi government has not yet officially notified the Indonesian embassy over the case, including the removal of Tari from the hospital to the witness protection center," Teguh said.
The Indonesian embassy had sent diplomatic notes to the Saudi government three times but it had yet to receive any response from them, he said.
He said that other victim, Rumini, was still in the hospital because she had yet recovered from injuries she suffered from an alleged abuses.
"Two other dead victims, Susmiyati and Siti Tarwiyah had undergone autopsies and their bodies had been kept in the morgue of Riyadh Medical Complex," he said.
Teguh said that Indonesia continued to insist so that the Saudi government would allow the two bodies to be repatriated immediately to Indonesia.
"Though, we have not yet received positive response from the local authorities, we continue to insist that the bodies be returned to Indonesia soon," he added. (**)
