BEIJING (Antara): Indonesia was expected to send a team consisting of representatives from several institutions to China for discussion on food and non-food standards early September, 2007, an Indonesia diplomat has said.
"A team is planning to visit China and meet local officials to discuss food and non-food standards early September," Indonesia’s deputy chief of mission in Beijing, Mohamad Oemar, said here Sunday.
Oemar said the team would pay a visit to China to solve mutual refusals of several products between the two countries, which had made people in Indonesia worry about consuming Chinese products.
"We hope the result of the visit would settle the issue on the food and non-food standards so that there will be no longer refusals of products on the ground that they do not meet the health and security standards," Oemar said.
He pointed out that the two countries established the joint commission to identify problems and constraints in an effort to enhance the bilateral relations.
He said the mutual visits of the two countries’ quarantine officials would be the best means to identify and solve the issue on the food and non-food standards between the two countries.
The two countries’ joint commission on the fields of economy, trade and technical cooperation last met in October, 2006, in Bali, Indonesia. The 8th meeting was led by Indonesia’s Trade Minister Mari Pangestu and her Chinese counterpart Bo Xilai.
The joint commission’s 9th meeting was expected to be held in China this year. (**)
