JAKARTA : A magnitude-5.7 earthquake shook North Maluku area of Ternate on Tuesday morning, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
The quake struck at 9:56 a.m. local time (8:56 a.m. Jakarta time) and was centered 447 kilometers northeast of Ternate at a depth of 67 kilometers, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) reported on its website.
Previously, at 4:56 a.m. a magnitude-5.2 earthquake also jolted the region. It was centered 114 kilometers northwest of the region at a depth of 33 kilometers.
